
Kayson completed a Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting from Brigham Young University.
Following graduation he was invited to join the conducting faculty for the 2006-2007
season. Kayson has directed orchestras throughout Utah and beyond, including the
Omaha Symphony, Round Rock Symphony, all five BYU Orchestras, The University of
Utah Philharmonia, Symphony, and New Music Ensemble, Cleveland Institute of Music
Orchestra, Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Savior of the World pit orchestra, The
Pearl Awards Orchestra, Pleasant Grove Civic Symphony, Celebration Chamber Orchestra,
and Student Honors Orchestras in Salt Lake and Cache Counties.
Kayson earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Cello Performance and has worked with some of the world's premier cellists, including international soloist Natalie Clein, Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, and principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic, Carter Brey. Kayson is a member of the BYU cello faculty and teaches some of the state's most accomplished young cellists. Students from both his orchestra program and private studio regularly receive music scholarships at reputable university programs. He remains in demand as a conductor, educator, and performer.
Denise
Willey, founder of the Lyceum Orchestra in 1987, was named Utah Studio Teacher
of the Year in 1997 by the American String Teachers Association. An expert on teaching
children to read music, she is the author of Sight Reading for Strings Music Literacy
Program, and Suzuki Steps to Music Reading. Denise has directed young musicians
from across the country at Intermountain Suzuki String Institute, in public school
music programs and after-school orchestras. She is a Suzuki Registered Teacher Trainer
and a proud mother of six, all of whom have received national recognition for their
playing and who now teach music.
Susan
is the founder of two after-school orchestra programs in Salt Lake County and has
served on educational boards and committees as advocate for music education. She
has over 25 years experience working with extraordinary young musicians
and is certified in both Suzuki and Mark O’Conner methods. Susan received her Baccalaureate
Degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University and has received additional
training at Berklee College of Music and UCLA. She currently teaches in the Canyon
School District and has successfully taught music in elementary school programs
across the state. Susan studied under world-renowned Suzuki teacher Hiroko Primrose
who studied directly under Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. She maintains a private studio teaching
viola and cello.
Carolyn
Lundberg was born and raised in California as the oldest of 8 children who were
all trained to perform different musical instruments. She came to Utah on academic
and music scholarships to attend Brigham Young University where she completed her
Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy as a student of Irene Peery-Fox.
Carolyn currently plays the harp and cello with local orchestras and has taught
many years privately as well as in public school music programs. She conducted
and arranged music for an LDS youth orchestra that celebrated the church's Utah
pioneer sesquicentennial anniversary in 2002. She loves teaching music to her 5
children she is raising with her husband Dean as well as the young beginners of
Lyceum's Junior Strings.
